Review

Sat in the plains of the Mara North Conservancy, Kicheche Camp has been a favourite for big names over the years. The game-filled plains of the conservancies are renowned to have a lower vehicle density and can offer a wider selection of game viewing activities than camps located inside the reserve. On top of that, Jonathon Scott, one of presenters of the Big Cat Diaries, among many other photographers, regularly stay at Kicheche Camp for its game and unique experience.

Location

The camp is hidden amongst the bushes of the beautiful acacia valley in the Mara North Conservancy. The conservancy is renowned for its abundance of wildlife so game viewing is rarely a let down! The camp also overlooks the Olare Orok stream, attracting regular game and and as the camp overlooks the Olare Orok stream, the camp affords wonderful views of regular game that come to drink and graze in and around.

Layout

With only eight tents, the camp offers an intimate and cosy safari feel, with a handful of friendly and reliable staff to make a stay a truly memorable one. The main mess area perches on the top of the valley, offering views down from the cosy lounge and library.

Rooms

The tents are simply furnished and offer comfortable safari accommodation in a game-filled environment. The tents each have an en-suite which homes a flushing toilet, running hot water and the classic safari low-lighting. Among the eight tents, there are triple and quad tents available which can accommodate families at ease.

Activities

There are no ‘hard and fast’ rules at Kicheche so guests can decide on their game viewing activities when and where they please. The camp offers flexible game drives (early morning and late afternoon being the most productive hours in terms of game), with bush breakfasts, picnic lunches and sundowners available at an arms length through the day. Escorted bush walks through the Mara savannah are also popular- the real perk of being located outside the Reserve! Fly camping, village walks and hot air balloons are among additional activities.
