Review

Cottar’s 1920 Safari Camp is a timeless classic… literally! The Cottars family have been operating luxury tented safaris since 1919, and almost 100 years later, it is today still running smoothly. The elegant antique furniture, the impeccable personalised service, attention to detail and professional, award-winning guiding has been a combination attracting guests since the mid-nineties.

Location

Cottar’s 1920’s Camp is on a private game concession, joining the Masai Mara Reserve and the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. As it is on a private concession, the area promises privacy and diversity of wildlife. Cottar’s recognises this and provides activities that can take benefit of it, including ‘off-road’ driving, night drives and guided bush walks.

Layout and rooms

The camp has six 1920’s style, white en-suite tents, one honeymoon tent and four family suites. Because the camp accommodates 28 guests, there is a large pool, and two main mess areas to give a spacious yet intimate camp feel. The tents are spacious and lavish, fitting the timeless design, with old-fashioned showers, antique furniture and even a record player!

A 5-minute drive from the camp is the Cottars Private Homestead which can be booked exclusively for a luxury home in the bush. The house has five en-suite bedrooms, a private 25m pool, a huge lounge area with a roaring log fire, a private vehicle and professional guide for optimal game viewing activities and a team of dedicated staff and chefs to ensure a stay full of class and luxury.

Activities

Taking advantage of its location outside of the park, Cottar’s 1920’s Camp offers day and night game drives, guided bush walks where guests can get much closer to nature, cultural village visits, Masai warrior school, river swimming and fishing, and unforgettable bush meals and sundowners in the best kept secret spots overlooking the Mara plains.
