Review

The concept behind Ol Lentille is a truly admirable one and the lodge follows in the footsteps of other Kenyan lodges who have tried to incorporate local communities into conservation rather than excluding them. The lodge itself is cleverly thought out with a range of differing options open for couples through to larger families. Everything has been arranged to a very high spec and this is certainly one of the best choices in the Laikipia area.

Location

Perched on the flanks of a wooded rock kopje, in the heart of a private conservation area, is The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille - a collection of four private, full-service, fully staffed Houses for the discerning few. Situated at the community-owned Kijabe Group Ranch, on the far northern escarpment of the Laikipia Plateau, the conservancy is home to the endangered African wild dog, greater kudu, leopard, striped and spotted hyena, and klipspringer.

Layout

There are four large, serviced houses set in a private concession. The lodge provides beautiful views, as well as a combination of great communal areas with an infinity pool, library and verandahs. The idea is to have a private house which is fully catered for, while also having the amenities of a larger lodge.

Rooms

Each of the private houses has been designed with a specific theme in mind and, accordingly, have their own character and selling points. On the whole the largest, Chief’s, is used for families or slightly larger groups as it comfortably sleeps 6. With the Colonel’s house sleeping 4 and Eyrie and the Sultan’s Houses both able to sleep 2, the lodge never really feels that busy.

Activities

The lodge has an excellent range of activities from a world class spa to quad biking and horse riding. A whole host of activities await the intrepid from standard game viewing activities to rock climbing to quad and mountain biking to the more traditional horse and camel rides, there is certainly enough on offer to keep even the most jittery occupied.
